C of C Sailing Update. SAISA Fall Coed Championships.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team will compete in one regatta this weekend; the SAISA Fall Coed Championships- hosted by Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

CofC will sail senior All-American skipper Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.), sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal (Bellport, N.Y.) and senior crew Sarah Somes (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) in A-Division as well as senior skipper Chris Banholzer (Hartland, Wis.), senior crew Sarah Scudder (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and senior crew Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.) in B-Division.

After the first day of racing, the College of Charleston Sailing Team is currently in FIRST overall at the SAISA Fall Coed Championships (hosted by Eckerd College) in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The College of Charleston Sailing team has finished FIRST overall at the SAISA Fall Conference Championship (hosted by Eckerd College) in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The Cougars won by an impressive 22pts, and won both divisions with 14pts each in 10 sets.

C of C Sailing Update. Sherman Hoyt Trophy and SAISA Sloop Match Race.

The #3 ranked College of Charleston Sailing Team will compete in two events this weekend. 

Sherman Hoyt Trophy:
To be hosted by Brown. Senior All-American skipper Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and senior crew Cory DeCollibus (Duxbury, Mass.) will sail in A-Division and senior All-American skipper Ben Spector (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal (Bellport, N.Y.) in B-Division.

SAISA Sloop Match Race:
The Cougars will look to qualify for nationals at the in-district event with sophomore Nick Johnstone (Newport, R.I.), sophomore Chris Sands (Nassau, Bahamas), senior Sarah Somes (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) and senior Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.) representing the squad. The Match Race event will be sailed at home, at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Sherman Hoyt Trophy:
Here is a photo from the Sherman Hoyt Trophy this past weekend, where the College of Charleston Sailing Team placed 10th in a fleet that contained some of the top collegiate sailors in the nation.

SAISA Sloop Match Race:
After a tough weekend of racing, the Cougars placed 3rd overall in the SAISA Sloop Match Race Race qualifiers- and did not qualify for Sloop Nationals.

C of C Sailing Update. Yale Women’s Intersectional and Navy Fall Intersectional.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team has 2 road regattas lined up for this weekend.

Navy Fall Intersectional:
Senior All-American skipper Ben Spector, sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal, and senior crew Jeff Aschieris will compete in A-Division at the Navy Fall Intersectional along with senior All-American skipper Mac Mace, senior crew Cory DeCollibus, and freshman crew Jake Reynolds in B-Division.

The rotation at Navy will also include senior Juan Maegli in the Laser Full Rig C-Division and junior Roy Shaw in the Radial D-Division. Freshman Dodge Reeds will serve as an alternate in the C-and D-Divisions.

Yale Women’s Intersectional:
In women’s competition at Yale, sophomore Kayla Gibson will skipper A-Division, with senior crew Sarah Somes, and sophomore Melany Johnson will skipper B-Division with junior crew Carly Shevitz.

Navy Fall Intersectional:
The Cougars are currently in FIRST at the Navy Fall Intersectional, with one more day of racing to go! They are currently 37points ahead of Yale and Georgetown.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team has WON the Navy Fall Intersectional by an impressive 27 points.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team have 3 regattas lined up for this weekend:
-The Moody Trophy at the University of Rhode Island
-Navy Fall Women’s in Annapolis
-North Points #4 at UNC Wilmington

North Points #4:
The regatta went well. Light and shifty conditions with a flooding tide made for an interesting day of sailing in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Freshmen Jake Reynolds and Katie Dowling sailed A-Division along with freshmen Kyle Sutter and Michaela Reynolds in B-Division (both divisions sailed 420′s). The regatta ran smoothly thanks to our awesome coach Ned. The cougars ended up winning the event. -Katie Dowling

Another successful weekend for the fourth-ranked College of Charleston Sailing Team:
-FIRST overall sailing North Points #4 at UNC Wilmington
-THIRD overall at the Moody Trophy in Rhode Island
-FOURTH overall at the Navy Fall Women’s Regatta

Navy Fall Women’s:
Lady Cougars sailed 16 solid races to a 4th place finish at the Navy Fall Women’s Intercoference Regatta in Annapolis, MD. Great job ladies!
