It’s opening weekend for the College of Charleston Sailing Team, and the Cougar sailors are fired up to get Spring ’14 underway!
Currently the #1 ranked SAISA team, the C of C Sailing Cougars will compete in two events this weekend; the SAISA Open (hosted by Eckerd) and the Southern Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (hosted by Charleston).
The Dinghy team headed down to St. Pete includes Alex Whipple, Chloe Dapp, Noah Blacker, and Kayla Adelman with Coach Mitch.
The Offshore Team sailing this weekend consists of Jay Greenfield, Timmy Crann, Stefan Kuehn, Brent Burrows, Sean Hannigan, Hanna Horan, Ian Grant, and Charles Essi with Coach Ned.

The first racing day of the Spring 2014 season is over, and theCollege of Charleston Sailing Team is currently in FIRST overall down in St. Petersburg, and in a very close third at the SCOR here in Charleston.
At the SAISA Open (hosted by Eckerd), the Cougars are currently in FIRST overall thanks to a dominating performance in the A fleet, and top notch finishes in the B fleet. The Cougars are leading the 20-team field with just 29pts.
At the Southern Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (hosted by Charleston), the C of C Offshore Team is sitting in 3rd place after 4 races in light to moderate conditions. The racing has been extremely close for the big boats, and the championship is still up for grabs headed into tomorrow.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team has placed FIRST at the SAISA Open in St. Petersburg, FL (hosted by Eckerd).
The C of C Sailors proved why they are the #1 ranked SAISA team, and edged out the competitive 20-team field with an impressive score of just 45pts through 8 races, finishing 9pts ahead of second place.
With this victory on the opening weekend of the Spring season, the Dinghy team now looks ahead to next weekend and competing in the Charleston Spring Coed and USF Women’s regattas.
The C of C Offshore Sailing Team has clinched SECOND overall at the Southern Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta here in Charleston!
Despite a lack of wind this morning, the RC was able to get 2 races off in light breeze which led to finishes of 2nd and 1st by the College of Charleston Sailing Team.
The Offshore Cougars clawed their way back after being in third place yesterday, and managed to move up in the standings to secure the second place finish; only 2pts out of first.
This is the first Offshore event of the Spring season, and the Offshore team will now be focused on the Port of LA Harbor Cup, set to take place in March.
