SAISA Singlehanded, SAISA Doublehanded, Danmark Trophy, Fall Harbor Race


It’s another busy weekend as the Cougars set out to compete in 3 ICSA regattas!

The College of Charleston Sailing team will be on the road in Miami, and New London where the Cougar sailors will be competing at the SAISA Women’s Singlehanded Championships (hosted by the University of Miami), the SAISA Women’s Fall Dinghy regatta (hosted by the University of Miami), and The Danmark Trophy (hosted by the Coast Guard Academy).

The Offshore Cougars will also be competing in the Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA) Fall Harbor Race as a final tune-up before the Larchmont IOR!

In their last tune-up event before the Larchmont IOR, the Offshore Cougars (sailing a J120) claimed First in the local Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA) Fall Harbor Race.

One race was sailed in conditions that saw a steady 20-25kts of breeze.

Another successful Saturday for the College of Charleston Sailing Team, here’s your Cougar sailing update:

The Lady Cougars have WON the SAISA Women’s Singlehanded Championship! Clerc Cooper took first overall in the 12 race series, followed closely by teammate Beka Schiff, with fellow Lady Cougar Sarah Mackey taking a respectable 8th in the competitive 12 team regatta hosted by the University of Miami. This qualifies the Cougars for the ICSA Women’s Singlehanded Nationals to be held later this year.

In Connecticut, The Cougars are in second overall at the Danmark trophy after sailing 10 races on day 1 of this 2 day event. Skipper Jake Reynolds with crew Ali Blumenthal are representing the Cougars in A-Division with skipper Nick Johnstone and crew Seppie McAdams sailing in B-Divison.

Tomorrow, the Cougars will continue sailing the Danmark and also sail the SAISA Women’s Doublehanded at the University of Miami.

The Cougars have closed out the weekend with a solid Second place overall finish at the SAISA Women’s Doublehanded Championship, and a Third overall a the Danmark Trophy!

After claiming the top 2 finishes at the U. of Miami hosted SAISA Women’s Singlehanded Championship yesterday, the Lady Cougars went on to place Second at the Doublehanded Championship, thanks to a solid performance by A-Division skipper Clerc Cooper with crew Chloe Dapp and B-division skipper Beka Schiff with crew Morgan Buckley.

Up in Connecticut, the Charleston sailors managed a very respectable top 3 performance at the Danmark Trophy, a top-tier regatta that featured 20 of the best collegiate teams in the nation.
