C of C Sailing Update. Szambecki Team Race, Charleston Women’s.


The College of Charleston Sailing Team is getting ready for another weekend of competition, here are your lineups for this weekend’s events:

At the Aaron Szambecki Team Race, hosted by Old Dominion University, the Cougars will be represented by Jake Reynolds, Ali Blumenthal, Beka Schiff, Ryan Davidson, Emily Stuart, Chase Shaw, Nick Johnstone, and Seppie McAdams.

At the Charleston Women’s event, hosted by The College of Charleston, the Cougars will sail two teams:
A: Grace Lucas, Morgan Buckley / Charlotte Saxe. B: Kayla Gibson, Michaela Reynolds.
A: Katherine Baker, Katie Dowling. B: Sarah Mackey, Bayley Davidson

For fans interested in supporting the Lady Cougars and attending this weekend’s home regatta, the best place to spectate is the outside wall of the marina at the Walker Sailing Complex. Racing begins at approximately 10 a.m. (ET) and will take place right on the Cooper River by the marina in Charleston Harbor.

Meanwhile, here in Charleston, The Lady Cougars, currently ranked No. 7 nationally in Sailing World’s college rankings, will play host to No. 1 Yale, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 MIT, No. 8 Georgetown, No. 12 U.S. Coast Guard Academy, No. 13 Eckerd College, Boston University, South Florida, Wisconsin and Washington College in the Charleston Women’s Inter-conference.

Here’s your College of Charleston Sailing mid-weekend regatta update:

The C of C Lady Cougars are in FIRST overall at the Charleston Women’s Inter-conference Regatta thanks to a solid performance of day 1 of racing out in Charleston Harbor! The second C of C Ladies team is sitting in 7th overall out of the competitive 12 team field, and is looking forward to climbing up the score sheet tomorrow.

Up in Virginia, at the Szambecki Team Race, the College of Charleston Sailing Team is in SECOND overall with an 11-5 record headed into tomorrow’s racing. The Cougars will be looking to come out on top, as they are only 2 wins behind the current leader Stanford.

Lady Cougars finish SECOND at Charleston Women’s Inter-conference while the College of Charleston Sailing Team claims FOURTH at the Szambecki Team Race:

After a long morning postponement here in Charleston, the race committee was finally able to get 2 sets off to complete the Charleston Women’s Inter-conference regatta.
The Lady Cougars sailed two teams at this event, and finished 2nd and 8th overall after battling through 11 races with the top women’s teams in the nation.

In Virginia, at the Aaron Szambecki Team Race, the Cougars finished the series with a 14-7 record; good enough to take 4th overall in the 8 team field.

C of C Sailing Update. Szambecki Team Race.


The College of Charleston Sailing Team is set to compete at the Szambecki Team Race (hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA.) this weekend, an event of which they are the defending champions!

Last year at this regatta, the Cougars advanced to the final round and put together a strong 6-1 record amongst the eight-team field.

The Cougars’ rotation will include an experienced group headlined by senior skipper and 2012 London Olympian Juan Maegli and freshman crew Seppie McAdams; senior All-American skipper Mac Mace and senior crew Cory Decollibus; and senior All-American skipper Ben Spector and sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal and senior crew Brooks Clark.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team has finished 2nd overall at the 2013 Aaron Szambecki Team Race, hosted by Old Dominion.

The Cougars end the event with a 10-4 record.
