C of C Sailing Update. 2013 Women’s Nationals.

We are 2 days away from the start of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) / Sperry Top-Sider Women’s National Championships!

The College of Charleston Sailing Team will be one of 18 schools competing in the Finals for the 2013 championship.

Sailing for C of C will be Grace Lucas, Sarah Somes, and Morgan Buckley in A division with Clerc Cooper, Elizabeth Chambers, and Beka Schiff in B division.

C of C Sailing Update. SAISA Women’s Spring Championship, Admiral’s Cup.

The No. 4-ranked College of Charleston Sailing team has a big weekend ahead of them as they look to defend their title at the Admirals Cup, and take home the gold at the SAISA Women’s Championship!

At the Admirals Cup hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.:
Senior All-American skipper Ben Spector competes in A-Division with sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal and senior crew Jeff Aschieris. In B-Division, the Cougars will sail senior All-American skipper Mac Mace and senior crew Cory DeCollibus as well as freshman Dodge Rees in C-Division.

At the SAISA Women’s Championship hosted by South Florida in St. Petersburg, Fla.:
Junior skipper Grace Lucas will be joined in A-Division with senior crew Sarah Somes and sophomore crew Morgan Buckley, while sophomore Clerc Cooper skippers B-Division with junior crew Elizabeth Chambers and freshman crew Beka Schiff.

C of C Sailing Update. SAISA Team Race Championships, Emily Wick Women’s Intersectional.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team is set to compete in 2 key events this weekend-
The SAISA Team Race Championships hosted by Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. and The Emily Wick Women’s Intersectional hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

Senior All-American skippers Ben Spector and Mac Mace will lead an experienced group headed to the SAISA Team Race Championships. They will be joined by 2012 London Olympian Juan Maegli, sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal, senior crew Cory DeCollibus and freshman crew Seppie McAdams.

Meanwhile, the No. 9-ranked C of C women will sail the rotations of junior skipper Grace Lucas, sophomore crew Morgan Buckley and senior crew Sarah Somes in A-Division at the Emily Wick Women’s Intersectional. Sophomore Clerc Cooper will skipper B-Division with freshman crew Emily Stuart and freshman crew Beka Schiff.

C of C Sailing Update. Truxton Umsted, St. Mary’s Womens.

The top-ranked College of Charleston Sailing coed and seventh-ranked women’s sailing teams are out competing in 2 regattas this weekend!

At the four-division Truxton Umsted, the Cougars will sail senior All-American skipper Ben Spector along with sophomore crew Morgan Buckley and freshman crew Ryan Davidson in A-Division, while senior Chris Banholzer skippers B-Division with the crew of sophomore Tierney Driscoll and senior Jeff Aschieris. Junior Enrique Arathoon, will make his C of C collegiate debut in C-Division of the Truxtun Umstead, while junior Roy Shaw races in D-Division.

Over at the St. Mary’s Women’s regatta, sophomore skipper Clerc Cooper and junior crew Elizabeth Chambers will compete in A-Division, while sophomore skipper Kayla Gibson is joined by senior crew Sarah Scudder and freshman crew Beka Schiff in B-Division.

“I have confidence in our team that we will see some good racing this weekend,” CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. “If everyone can remain consistent, we will be competitive at each event.”

As Saturday draws to a close, so does day 1 of racing for the College of Charleston Sailing Team as they compete in 2 events this weekend.

At the Truxton Umsted event, the Cougars are sitting in SECOND overall- only 10pts out of first, after only 4 races being completed.

At the St. Mary’s Women’s regatta, the Lady Cougars are holding on to eighth overall after day 1 of racing.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team has placed THIRD overall at the 20 team Truxton Umsted event hosted by Navy this past weekend.

Also, The Lady Cougars end the St. Mary’s Womens regatta with a respectable SEVENTH overall after competing with some of the top women’s teams in the country.

C of C Sailing Update. North Points #3, John Jackson Memorial Team Race, Navy Spring Women’s, St. Mary’s Team Race, Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup.

The C of C Offshore Team is heading out to get a few hours of practice in before a 2pm start this afternoon at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup!

Good luck to the entire team, including skipper Jay Greenfield, mainsail trimmer Brent Burrows, jib/spin trimmer Brandon Folkman, secondary trimmer Nathan Akers, pit girl Hanna Horan, mast man/ tactician Timmy Crann, bowman Luke Ackerman, alternate Charles Essi and Coach Ned Goss.

After day 1 of racing at the 2013 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup, the Cougars are tied for 4th overall with 9pts. 2 races have been completed, with another 8 on the schedule.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team is spread across the U.S. this weekend, with 5 teams on the road competing in 5 different events!

The Cougars enter this weekend’s competition with their highest national rankings of the season, as they claimed sole possession of No. 1 in the latest college coed rankings.

The Cougars are set to compete at the St. Mary’s Team Race hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Additionally, the Cougars will compete at the John Jackson Team Race regatta hosted by Georgetown in Washington, D.C.

The Lady Cougars will be competing at the Navy Spring Women’s regatta hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy.

The Cougars will also field teams in the North Points #3 regatta hosted by Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. C of C has won all four North Points events held in the fall and spring this season.

Finally, the C of C Offshore team continues to sail at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup in LA where they have 2 days of competition left.

The College of Charleston Offshore Sailing Team has placed SECOND overall in their very first Offshore regatta!

The Cougars sailed a competitive 10 race series at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup (hosted by Cal Maritime, in California) to secure a second place finish over 3 days of intense racing in the Catalina 37 keelboat.

The team also won the ‘Dockmaster’ award for showing good sportsmanship and exceptional boat maintenance throughout the series.

This was the first regatta for the newly formed Offshore team at C of C, the Offshore team consists of Jay Greenfield, Brent Burrows, Brandon Folkman, Nathan Akers, Hanna Horan, Timmy Crann, Charles Essi, and Luke Ackerman.

It was another packed weekend for the #1 ranked College of Charleston Sailing Team, as they competed in a total of 5 different events.

On Saturday, at North Points #3 in Tennessee, the Cougars ended up 2nd overall in this one day event.

The College of Charleston Sailing Team also claimed 2nd at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race hosted by Georgetown after sailing a very competitive series.

The Lady Cougars end the Navy Spring Women’s regatta with a strong 7th place finish in the 20 team fleet.

At the St. Mary’s Team Race, the Cougars finished 6th overall in what was a very skilled fleet of 10 teams.

The Offshore Cougars claimed 2nd overall in what was their first offshore event at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup!

Good job to all Cougar sailors that competed on this very busy weekend!
