The College of Charleston Sailing Development Team serves as a valuable resource for those sailors not quite ready for the Varsity team, yet wanting to improve through time on the water with hopes of trying out for the Varsity team in the future. The Development team is also beneficial for those sailors simply looking to get out on the water, sail, have fun, and improve their skills. Even if your sailing experience is minimal we would love to have you come out!
The C of C Sailing Development Team is currently coached by Sam Tobio. The Development team practices twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, in 420s, FJs and J22s. The team focuses on improving various skills, while still maintaining a fun atmosphere.
A typical practice consists of a variety of drills (many of which are used by the Varsity team) as well as a series of short races.
With being a member of the Development team, comes many additional benefits. Development Team Sailors are always “in the loop” when it comes to finding opportunities to sail local events within the community. Additionally, you will have access to the entire C of C fleet of boats with the ability to take them out whenever you wish (as long as the sailing center is open), and you become a part of a great group of sailors who enjoying nothing more than sailing and having fun.
Feel free to contact Sam Tobio (Development Team Head Coach) with any additional questions you may have, or to find out how you can join the College of Charleston Sailing Development Team.
