Learn to Sail

Learn to Sail Programs at the College of Charleston:

The College of Charleston Sailing Association offers a number of non-credit, adult community sailing classes that run from April through August. The classes last about three weeks and include 15 hours of instruction on-the-water and two, 2 hour long classroom sessions. We also offer summer classes for youth, and private lessons.

These are group classes with a maximum of 18 students per class; three students per boat. A head instructor and an assistant teach the class in an organized drill method.

Our boats are J-22’s, a safe and responsive sailboat with keel, 22 feet in length and is among the most widely used instructional boat in the nation. The boats have been modified for instructional purposes, allowing for maximum learning situations and a comfortable sailing experience.

Our sailing complex is located at the Patriots Point Marina in Mt Pleasant, adjacent to the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina Hotel. Once on the marina dock, follow the signs to CofC Sailing. Please feel free to visit the sailing center, inspect the fleet, and talk to our friendly staff.

We currently offer Learn to Sail Classes for Youth, Adults and Private Lessons.
