Coach Ward grew up sailing on the muddy waters of Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, LA. He honed his skills from a young age and quickly became one of the top double-handed trapeze crews in the country. He attended Old Dominion University earning a bachelor’s degree in Education. As a senior helm he helped win the Team Race National Championship earning himself an All American Honorable Mention. Ward then became a member of the US Sailing Team competing in the Olympic 470 class from 1999-2004. After placing 3rd in the Olympic Trials, he and his wife Jennifer (ODU Teammate) moved to Charleston. That fall Ward started coaching under longtime Director George Wood and quickly ascended into the head coach role. Under his leadership the Cougars have secured five Fowle Trophy honors as the best overall team in College Sailing. He’s particularly proud that he’s helped produce over 50 Men’s, Women’s, Crew and Academic All- Americans. As per National Champ titles the team secured five Coed Dinghy, four Men’s Singlehanded, two Match Race, the Women’s Dinghy & Three Team Race Championships!
